Winning victories for clean energy.

This fall, the Illinois General Assembly passed "smart grid" legislation that includes major provisions for renewable energy and energy efficiency that Environment Illinois fought to have included in the bill. These key provisions will boost green jobs in the clean energy and energy efficiency industries, cut health-harming pollution from energy production, and save consumers money. Environment Illinois' Bruce Ratain and Max Muller lobbied on the successful team that brought the bill across the finish line.

Senator Kirk Votes In Favor of the Clean Power Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted to block the Clean Power Plan, the first-ever federal limits on carbon pollution from power plants and the centerpiece of President Obama’s plan to tackle climate change. Illinois Senator Mark Kirk opposed the measure, instead siding with those who support action to reduce pollution and protect our children's future.

Map: All Illinoisians live in counties affected by severe storms, flooding and other weather-related disasters

Chicago, Illinois – Every Illinoisian lives in a county that has recently suffered from a weather-related disaster, such as the historic flood of April 2013, according to a new interactive map created using data from the federal government. Scientists say global warming is already exacerbating some extreme weather events and their impacts.
