Moving toward a green economy.

Chicago now has the world’s largest urban solar plant, and dozens of wind farms are springing up across the state, thanks to a series of landmark clean energy bills we helped pass over the last few years. These laws will ensure Illinois gets 25% of its energy from renewable sources by 2025 — and create thousands of new green jobs in the process.

The biggest clean water victory in a decade.

Lake Michigan, and all of our rivers, lakes and streams, will soon be cleaner and better protected than they have been in a decade, thanks to new guidelines that we helped win. Over the last decade, Supreme Court decisions left more than half of Illinois's streams vulnerable to pollution—the same streams that feed and filter Lake Michigan. Along with our allies, we delivered 100,000 public comments in support of clean water. And thanks to our efforts, the Obama administration is moving to finalize guidelines that will restore Clean Water Act protections to many of our waterways.

You’re building support to save the bees.

Millions of bees are dying off, with alarming consequences for our environment and our food supply. In 2015, we mobilized grassroots support for protecting these vital pollinators. Thanks to your support, our national team and a coalition of beekeepers, farmers and others delivered more than 4 million petitions calling on the Obama administration to declare a ban on neonicotinoids, a class of bee-killing pesticides.

We helped win the single biggest action our country has ever taken on climate

Under the newly announced Clean Power Plan, gas and coal power plants will pollute 32 percent less and clean energy sources such as wind and solar will meet much more of the nation’s electricity needs. Environment America is proud of the role we’ve played to galvanize public support for this historic plan. With continued commitment from President Obama and state leaders, and strong backing from the American people, this will mark a giant shift toward the 100 percent clean energy reality that the climate crisis demands and future generations deserve.
